that the district will ask the Colorado Department of Education for
flexibility on mandatory seat time and state testing requirements.
School District closes for 2 weeks
“The decision to close our school district was extremely difficult
and made with superintendents throughout our area,” Krage stated. “We
know that closing our schools will have a significant impact on our
families, but we also believe that strong, urgent action must be taken
to prevent the spread of this disease and to protect our community.” Florence Political News
Krage stated that during the closure, the district’s schools,
facilities and buses will undergo additional “deep cleanings with
hospital-grade disinfectants.”
“We encourage the community to continue hand washing and follow other
recommendations from the CDC about how to avoid the spread of the
illness,” Krage said.
The district will keep students, staff and parents informed through
regular updates on its website, www.re-2.org, and is working with public
health officials, elected leaders and neighboring school districts
regarding the illness. Florence News Uodates
“Our goal is always to protect the safety, health and wellness of our
students, staff and families,” Krage said. “Our strength as a community is our greatest asset. We can work together to protect each other and
slow the progression of Florence COVID-19.”
Colorado suffered its first death to the disease Friday after a woman
in her 80s who lived in El Paso County died. She had underlying health
conditions, according to a news release. There were 77 cases of
COVID-19, the highly contagious respiratory disease caused by the new
coronavirus, in the state as of Friday evening. Among those were eight
people who were in the hospital, at least three of whom were in critical
condition, state health officials said. Florence Press Release Distribution
